Omnissa Horizon Browser Redirection Extension enables the redirection of web pages from Horizon desktops/app. With Browser Redirection, when an end user uses the supported browser in a remote desktop, the website is rendered on the client system instead of the agent system, and it is displayed over the remote browser's viewport. The viewport is the portion of the browser window that displays the content of a web page.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This extension should be installed in Horizon desktops/apps. Contact your IT department for further assistance.

Browser Content Redirection (BCR) for Omnissa Horizon virtual desktop infrastructure — redirects web page rendering from the remote virtual desktop to the local client machine

When users browse the web inside a Horizon VDI session, the remote desktop agent must render web content, consuming server CPU/GPU resources and degrading user experience. 1) Extension is installed inside a Horizon virtual desktop/app (not the client machine). 2) Extension connects to the Horizon Agent via native messaging host (com.vmware.html5mmr or com.horizon.html5mmr). 3) Agent provides a WebSocket port number and URL whitelist. 4) When user navigates to a whitelisted URL in the remote browser, the extension intercepts via declarativeNetRequest and redirects to HorizonBrowserRedirect.html. 5) Content script creates a WebSocket to the local Horizon Client (wss://view-localhost) and requests instance creation. 6) The actual web content is rendered on the client machine and composited over the remote browser viewport using a color-key overlay. 7) Navigation events, title updates, and fullscreen requests are synchronized between remote and client.
