I want to love it and use it but it doesn't actually seem to work... my tab for a cause says "inactive" and I've had it loaded in for weeks. Edit: To get it to work, you need to change the search bar in the tab for a cause tab. Took me way too long to figure out. Unfortunate the forced browser is yahoo but at least it's better than what google's become.
I really enjoy helping for a good cause every time I search. I wish I could use google search but it's ok. I also have Tab for a cause and LOVE it. Both help in little ways and I really enjoy that. I love both these apps.
If you're worried about being locked to Yahoo as a search engine, check out their other extension "Tab for a Cause"; you can edit the search engine, and choose a preferred charity/cause. Unfortunately, it's one extra step to search something since you have to open a new tab, but at least you can personalize things. I think if this were built into Tab for a Cause, rather than being a separate extension, that could improve the user experience and allow settings to be shared by both.
This app idea is awesome - of course Yahoo is significantly worse than Google, but every time you search you get to feel a little good for being responsible for like 1 cent going to charity, and also you don't get that constant AI overview which uses up a bunch of energy. I find myself going to Google 10% of the time for things like images, but most of the time search for a Cause does the trick. Let's grow this thing! I'm telling my friends about it!
Works amazingly and is as described. Give you a nice feeling of charity every search. Giving back while mindlessly surfing the web. makes me less guilty of my procrastination. small note that it uses yahoo. No problem for me though.
Appreciate the intention, but it just doesn't work super great for me. Would love if the search could give Google results directly, instead of Yahoo.
Search for a Cause is a browser extension that uses your searches to earn money for charity. It's an effortless way to do some good, which I appreciate a lot.
Was working great up until a few months ago; I was using Google Chrome for the entire time. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and still not working. I even used Yahoo search (which is horrible) that they recommend and it still does not count any searches. This is really sad, since it's the animals who lose out. It would be nice if it worked, and if it worked with Chrome.
works perfectly
Anyone complaining about the results and being stuck with yahoo search is just not... Tech literate. I mainly use it to look for websites (Amazon, Google Maps, etc. instead of visiting them directly from the address bar) that I use commonly on a day to day. Sure, it works for regular (not images, videos, news...) searches like Google, and it gets you what you're looking for maybe 70% of the time. If you really can't find it, just type "google" and search from your website, don't be lazy. Anyway, it's a very simple way to give something back for literally doing what you have otherwise done anyway. I doubt it was meant to replace Google (be realistic). I've been using "for a Cause" extensions for several years now. Quite happy with them. 4/5 because the search capabilities could definitely be a lot better when regards to images, news, and videos... Although, (again) nothing that typing and searching for "google" can't fix.
