This extension is/was a really smart idea and, from a technical and privacy point of view, it’s been implemented in a very clean way. Under the hood, it simply hooks into the same web requests your browser already makes to web.snapchat.com, reads your friend data directly in your own session, and then lets you export it to CSV or ICS. There’s no external server, no obvious data exfiltration, and the only network call it makes aside from Snapchat itself is a small amount of anonymous Google Analytics (basic event counts like “export clicked”, not your friends’ details). For something that has access to your Snapchat tab, that’s about as privacy-respecting as you can reasonably expect. However, as of late 2025, it looks like Snapchat has changed their backend API (the old /ami/friends JSON endpoint has effectively disappeared in favour of gRPC/protobuf calls). The result is that the extension can no longer “see” your friends list, so the table never populates and exports don’t work anymore, even when you’re correctly logged in on web. That’s an upstream Snapchat change, not the developer doing anything shady.
