Brave is a great search engine, but when I add it to Google Chrome, I get Google’s stripped down new tab page. Would it be possible for this extension to also change the new tab page à la Ecosia’s extension?

The most capable search engine outside Big Tech's grip Google doesn't just return results — it curates a worldview. Its algorithm systematically amplifies institutional consensus and buries dissent. Most "alternative" search engines are just Bing skins — they inherit the same index, the same biases, the same gatekeeping under a different logo. DuckDuckGo, Startpage, Ecosia — different branding, same infrastructure. There are a handful of genuinely independent indexes out there — Mojeek, Kagi, Yep — but they come with real trade-offs in capability, cost, or accessibility. Brave sits in a rare position: it built its own independent index and it actually works well enough for daily use. That's not a small thing — that's the whole thing. For anyone thinking seriously about where information power concentrates and why, that distinction matters enormously. The extension itself is clean, fast, no friction. But the reason to use it goes beyond functionality — it's the most viable mainstream option that is architecturally outside Big Tech's search infrastructure. That's worth five stars.
