Zummarize

Quickly read through a summary of the web page. Summaries are generated in-browser, on. your local machine - that's safer and faster.

You can generate a summary of the entire page, or a selected portion of it, or auto-summarize all pages matching a domain or url segment.

At install, why does the webstore say that Zummarize can read and modify data on pages?

Primarily, note that Zummarize works entirely within your browser. No data leaves your browser and makes no external network connections.

Read permission ... because the extension needs to know the contents of the web page to summarize it.

Modify permission ... because the extension creates an overlay within the webpage at the top to show you the summary. It does not modify any other data on the page.
