Why other dark mode extensions fail

Most extensions apply a single CSS filter to the entire page — images become photonegatives, videos go black, and sites that continuously inject styles (React, Next.js, Emotion, styled-components) override the dark mode entirely after it loads. SmartDark solves both problems.

How SmartDark is different

Images, videos, and media are explicitly excluded — they always look exactly as intended. For dynamic apps, SmartDark watches for new styles being injected and stays on top of the cascade, so dark mode holds even as the page builds itself.
