I really wanted to like this extension and chose it out of a sea of similar extensions with many more reviews/users because of its emphasis on privacy and no data being stored or transmitted, but I can only give it two stars and TBH, that's being generous, as I tried it on 5 search engines and it failed on all five. The first attempt was on a Google search, which I expected might fail, as extensions generally can't function on chrome pages (though the voice button/overlay did appear, so maybe google.com isn't considered a chrome page. Either way, despite the button, it didn't work). Attempt #2 was Bing, on which the button appears for a fraction of a second and then is no more - fail. I thought, "maybe a less conventional/mainstream search engine might work," so I tried Whoogle Search 1st, both a public instance (https://search.garudalinux.org) and my locally hosted instance - no dice. I then tried a 4get public instance (4get.ca) - again, no joy. On all 3, the mic permission request popped up, which I granted, and the overlay/button was present, so I briefly felt optimistic. However, despite all that and the indicator in the address bar suggesting that the mic was, in fact, in use, nothing populated the text fields. Finally, just to ensure that my microphone was working, I wrote this review using Speech Note, my Linux PC's native talk-to-text app, so the mic is functional and picks up my voice with enough clarity to transcribe it with near perfect accuracy (using the CrisperWhisper voice recognition model). Sadly, all of the above left me with little choice but to uninstall. Hopefully, if nothing else my review spurs some much needed maintenance to get this ship righted
Honestly, this is a game-changer. I just talk and my browser types — works like magic on any site. Super handy when I’m feeling lazy or multitasking. Big respect to whoever built this!
This extension significantly enhances accessibility and productivity. Being able to dictate content directly into any text field saves time and reduces typing strain. Highly reliable and well-executed — thank you to the developer.
