Gives the days of the week their own background color in Google calendar. By default, this sets the background color of "Saturday" and "Sunday" to light gray and leaves weekdays white.
Very simple, and currently English only (it has English week day names hard-coded). Source is at https://github.com/msteffen/gcal-gray-weekends, where you can report bugs as well.

Extra Options for Google Calendar
Mark events as completed or cancelled in Google Calendar with emojis or strikethroughs.
More events. Less toolbar.
Customize your Google Calendar sidebar width with an intuitive resize handle. Simple, lightweight, and privacy-friendly.
Nice and simple, easy to use and gives the customization that I want. One thing that would be nice is a way to sync colors (eg for both weekend days) so I don't have to do them twice, but not a big deal.
This is great, really improves usability, works very easily. I don't understand why GCal hasn't added features like this in all the years it's been around. To the developer -- I would love a second iteration of this: the option to: 1. pick a shading color (rather than default gray) and 2. pick specific days. For example, if someone is traveling out of town, it's great to just see all those days shaded, rather than having to look at the all day events. It's a much better visual cue for special things like that -- vacations, surgeries, things like that.
Brilliant idea and Simple to activate. This should be an optional setting within Google Calendar, without needing an extension. Kudos to the developer.
No settings to mess with, just install and then refresh Google Calendar. So surprised this isn't a default setting. THANK YOU.
Hit add to chrome, click refresh on my open calendar, weekends are now gray. 5/5. I went from "I wish my weekends were a different color" to a google search to this working in under 60 seconds.
At last, a Google trick that actually helps to prevent adding tasks/events to Saturdays and Sunday that should be on a weekday. What a relief!
Did exactly as promised- just what I needed to stop accidentally scheduling Monday stuff on Sunday... On windows 10 laptop
Yes it Works (others don't!)
What a relief. How can I use the colorpicker as seen on your git?
Unlike other reviewers I have found it works on my macbook - currently still on Big Sur though. Might change when I get round to updating my OS to Monterey.
