The extension shows you a popup with last active tabs when you press its shortcut (Alt + Y by default). You cycle through them by holding Alt and pressing Y. By releasing the Alt key you switch to the chosen tab. This is like switching between apps in Windows (Alt + Tab) and in macOS (Cmd + Tab).
Also, when you close an active tab, you will be placed to the previously active one. It is more helpful than the default Chrome's behaviour, which activates the nearest tab.
You can delegate default switching between tabs by pressing Ctrl + Tab to the extension, see how https://github.com/dvdvdmt/popup-tab-switcher#replace-default-tab-switching-behaviour
NOTE: The extension tries to render its popup on the page wherever it is possible, but there are cases where it can't do that:
* Chrome's web store pages. The extension doesn't work here.
* Special Chrome tabs such as Settings, New tab, History, etc. In this case the extension tries to switch a user from a special tab to a previous tab without showing a popup.

It's the one that I am looking for
I think this extension is the best I've tried, however it still has several drawbacks: - When I run Chrome PWA app (e. g. Youtube), tab switcher cycles also through these PWA app windows and there are annoying bugs with tab order. - When some browser text box (e.g. search window or address bar) is focused, popup doesn't get displayed. - Zoom problems when using in PDF viewer (if PDF is zoomed in, tab switcher is zoomed out and vice versa). - Sometimes popup stays accidentally displayed and I have to press Enter to switch the tab. Mostly it is when browser is busy (webpage is heavy or still loading). - Bugs specific to particular websites (Google Docs - when switching to some the tab, there is no focus on the document). - Popup switcher is not native browser function, so it is slow sometimes and it doesn't work on special browser pages (new tab, settings etc). It is a shame Chrome doesn't support this natively.
That's really useful extension! Thank you! Works well, I was looking for such tool for years :)
Amazing extension. Really wanted ctrl+tab tab switch functionality like Arc browser and it delivered! Although, look and feel can be improved Example, 1. auto-switch light/dark based upon system settings 2. change font family 3. support grid (along with list) 4. enable tab preview
Of all the extensions I tried to cycle through recent tabs, this has been working the best. The Karabiner Elements hack to map Ctrl-Tab to this extension on macOS works mostly fine, though not as well as the workaround the author of Quick Tab Switch posted on their extension (they have the downside of only supporting 2 tabs :( ). Maybe review and see whether you can support that way for Ctrl-Tab! :)
FOR ANYONE TRYING TO CHANGE THE DEFAULT HOTKEYS Credit to @Eliahu Aaronn for pointing this out in another review. "chrome://extensions/shortcuts" It's this link For some reason he bruied it at the bottem of his github so if u want to find it, it's also there. you can find the github in the overview he wrote or in the description of his trailer video on youtube.
So far good. I don't see the ability to make a make a window come to the front when switching to a tab in a window different from the current
Amazing extension exactly what I needed. Works just like alt + tab on windows.
exactly what I was looking for!
This is pure gold! Changing Hotkey would be a nice functionality :)
