This extension keeps a single pinned page to prevent closing Chrome when the last tab of the last window is closed (or every window, it's configurable). To keep the tab bar clean (unlike other extensions), the pinned page is inserted only when absolutely necessary. It also handles well cases when tabs are moved between windows.
"Don't Close Window With Last Tab" provides no user interface or interaction for users. It only lets users configure additional configuration in "Options".

Was great, but stopped working in Chrome 150, on the start of July 2026. I found a replacement extension - Keep One Pinned Tab https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/keep-one-pinned-tab/nmcefdbkkkjndgafnlaikloffhdeknod
Unfortunately, it has stopped working. Closing last tab simply closes Chrome. Restarting and reinstalling the extension does not help. There are no errors, so don't know why it's failing.
doesn't keep the last tab if you open multiple windows of Chrome. How is it still a "Featured" extension after this many years of no update

正常に機能しないで空白タブが作成されず、ブラウザが閉じられてしまう事がそれなりに多い。 日頃からマウスジェスチャーでタブを閉じているので、最後のタブを閉じた時にブラウザごと終了してしまい焦る時がある。 わざわざ空白タブが作成されているかなんて確認しながらブラウジングしていないので。
It works as long as you only use 1 window. If you open a second window, once the second window is closed, the original one is unprotected. I tested this with difference settings but this bug persists. Otherwise, if you work with a single window, it will prevent it from closing.
This ext hasn't updated for years. Stability depends entirely on Chrome updates, sometimes it works sometimes doesn't. As for now the only consistent way of using this ext is to turn on ✔Allow only one "New Tab" page in a window ✔Allow "New Tab" page only as a last tab in a window ◉ Prevent closing of any last window (most subtle) Everything else will not work properly.
