Browsers normally display JSON documents as plain text or prompt download. This extension intercepts JSON responses and renders them as formatted, syntax-highlighted, collapsible HTML trees for easier reading and debugging.

When a user navigates to a URL that returns a JSON response (content-type: application/json), the background script detects the JSON content-type in the HTTP response headers and stores the URL in session storage. The content script on that page then queries the background script, and if confirmed as JSON, parses the document and replaces the page content with a formatted, interactive HTML view showing the JSON structure with syntax highlighting and collapsible sections.
