Monochromate is a powerful browser extension designed to reduce screen time, improve focus, and enhance accessibility by applying a grayscale filter to web pages. By removing distracting colors, it encourages mindful browsing and helps users regain control of their digital habits.
Benefits:
- Reduce Screen Time – Studies show that grayscale mode makes screens less stimulating, helping you spend less time on distracting websites.
- Boost Productivity & Focus – A color-free interface minimizes visual clutter, allowing you to concentrate better on tasks.
- Reduce Eye Strain – Some users find grayscale mode easier on the eyes, especially during long browsing sessions.

absolutely great Does its job well apt no nonsense
Does it Job!
Just installed it. Works like a charm
Thanks! Does what it says well enough. Is it possible for the monochrome state to be tab-specific as opposed to browser-wide without having to touch the exclusion list? e.g. I may want a background youtube tab to remain monochrome while I browsing in colour in another tab so that when I go back to the youtube tab, it is still monochrome. However, I want to be able to switch back to colour quickly when I come back to the youtube tab as well. Thanks again
Hi, in my case I only want one site to be grey out. Is possible to have an Include section also so we can only greyscale the sites we want instead of including all by default? Thanks! the extension work very well.
it doesnt help with reducing distraction...but extension does it works well
i like this extension, the ui is very clean and it gets the job done. only issue is that there's a ~1 sec latency whenever a site is loaded to overlay the greyscale which takes you out of it but idk if there's anything to be done about that. otherwise great extension
This extension is really helpful in managing distractions. Highly recommend using it.
