After trying out Read Aloud, Speechify, and README, I discovered that Readvox offers the most satisfying experience. Unlike Speechify's free version, Readvox does not impose voice limitations and does not require users to create an account, plus it's completely free to use.

Curious - what's the business model? No pro version, ads, or even donate options makes me skeptical on privacy disclosure but... if I'm wrong than it's too good to be true and I apologize! Works great, haven't hit any limits, well designed, floating widget is smartly draggable and simple to use. Having a specific issue where if I click into any other chrome tab or window it will stop within a second! Would LOVE to be able to have this running in a separate tab or window as I am active in another. Do I have to adjust how Chrome sleeps tabs with static content maybe? The drag to text feature is buggy but when I get it working it's fantastic. Some pages will render the play button for selected text differently, oftentimes instantly disappearing, disappearing when I move to click on it, or appearing in the wrong spot. Maybe just have the floating widget's main play button just play the selected text when there is text selected as a backup for pages that aren't loading Simple, useful, and an incredible light in the vast darkness of freemium alternatives with character limits. Just a few tweaks/bugs - and I'm still curious about the business model? Thank you!

I couldn't get it to read any text on any websites. It would just sit and load but never play. The select text option didn't work either. I swear all the other 5 star reviews were bought

Such sweet voices that feels natural. I cant recommend it enought. really is supremly nice when you just want stuff to be read for you without watching a screen.
