Try h264ify if YouTube videos stutter, take up too much CPU, eat battery life, or make your laptop hot.
By default, YouTube streams VP8/VP9 encoded video. However, this can cause problems with less powerful machines because VP8/VP9 is not typically hardware accelerated.
In contrast, H.264 is commonly hardware accelerated by GPUs, which usually means smoother video playback and reduced CPU usage. h264ify makes YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos.
Note: 4K and 1440p videos will not be available because YouTube no longer encodes those videos in H.264

I absolutely love this plugin. Webm or vp9 video playback makes my laptop extremely slow. This plugin solved this issue. Thank you. 5 out of 5. Didn't face any issue so far.

К сожалению 88 версия хрома теперь зависает. Выличите пожалуйса.
По сравнению нагрузки на ЦП в диспетчере задач, с этим расширением выше 10% не бывает, энергопотребление в основном низкое, бывает умеренное но только в начале запуска видео (качество видео 1080р), в то время когда без этого расширения нагрузка в основном 30%, а то и более бывает (было замечено до 60%) и энергопотребление скачет между высоким и очень высоким. Вывод, ютуб вы там чё ауели? 👿
This app is a real life saver!!! Before, I was using YouTube normally and it would hit up to 98% cpu usage on 1080p and when I switched to this, the cpu usage went all the way down to 10% cpu usage, it's a really good piece of software!
It limits the video quality to 1080p in YouTube, what's the point then? I can do that by myself and have no issues... Plus the videos look worse... Total garbage...

Does the job right. Exremely useful for PCs that don't support VP9. It's increases browsing and overall performence by reducing load on CPU. It also increases battery life considerably. I am uninstalling it because I don't need it anymore since my new laptops now supports VP9. but for those that want to block 60fps vids or convert them to 30fps while streaming this is still usefull. Thanks a lot for the great work, devs.
I didn't know about h264ify until it came pre-installed on my Raspberry Pi 4 and got carried over to my Windows 10 PC. My PC is not that great, so this extension works perfectly for me! Videos lag otherwise if I turn it off. My only complaint here is that auto-generated captions just seem to disappear. Other than that, amazing extension for bad computers!
