Try h264ify if YouTube videos stutter, take up too much CPU, eat battery life, or make your laptop hot.
By default, YouTube streams VP8/VP9 encoded video. However, this can cause problems with less powerful machines because VP8/VP9 is not typically hardware accelerated.
In contrast, H.264 is commonly hardware accelerated by GPUs, which usually means smoother video playback and reduced CPU usage. h264ify makes YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos.
Note: 4K and 1440p videos will not be available because YouTube no longer encodes those videos in H.264

A must for Toshiba Chromebook 2 (2014), eliminating all the stuttering when watching 1080p 60fps videos on YouTube.
This extension is a must for watching Youtube videos Higher than 1080p on most devices. Its absolutely ridiculous how Google uses VP9 as the default video codec. VP9 Is extremely unoptimized and is extremely demanding. It Only scales to the CPU and not GPU so you'll need a desktop Intel i7 @4Ghz+ in order to run 4k 60fps video. I believe that the fact that Google still Keeps VP9 at default shows how incompetent the Youtube staff is. Keep in mind that the extension Only goes up to 1080p 60fps and 4k standard fps.
