I started using Surfer as an experiment to see whether it would help with our search rankings. Having initially been quite suspicious of an AI tool that could optimise for search, I have had a great experience and noticed a sharp uptick in keyword ranking and organic traffic since using Surfer. I would summarise the benefits as follows: Time saving - Surfer will save you hours by eliminating or massively reducing the amount of time you need to spend researching and planning the structure of an article. By providing a list of keywords and headings to include, you get a good idea of the ground an article should cover in order to rank. Gamification - The gamified element of updating your article and seeing that score update in real-time based on adding keywords to your writing is fun, but also takes away a lot of the guesswork around content marketing. It's a satisfying feeling to optimise an old piece of content, improve its score - and then see this translate into improved rankings in time. In all fairness, it would technically be possible to create articles with a high Surfer score, simply on the strength of including lots of keywords. On the surface this seems to encourage keyword stuffing which is an unsound SEO technique - the app won't give you much help in terms of spreading keywords evenly and organically throughout your writing, so a level of writing finesse and skill is still necessary. For this reason I would describe Surfer as a writing aid for experts - rather than a tool that will help ANYONE rank their content.
