Stunningly simple, uses the same voices of the Microsoft Narrator and 'just works', apart from many other extensions I used over years. I don't really have time to get into using all the nifty pro features many of them offer and I don't really need authentic, I need something that does not sounds like a chainsaw in my ear. On the downside, it reads where you point and sometimes reads ALL the page content, not only the text I need. If you look for a quick solution without playing with your registry editor, that's it.

This Chrome extension is the easiest-to-use text-to-speech tool I've tried so far. In particular, the automatic highlighting of the section being read is extremely helpful. However, there is one issue—when using Japanese text-to-speech and increasing the reading speed to about 1.4x, the pause between sentences becomes excessively long relative to the reading speed, making it quite unpleasant to listen to. It seems that this delay is caused by the time lag before the text is read aloud. There is a noticeable pause after clicking before the speech begins, and this delay also occurs when reading consecutive sentences. I would like the pauses between sentences to be appropriately shortened to match the faster reading speed. Addition: It would be great if there were a feature that allows users to adjust the pause between sentences themselves! For more complex texts, a longer pause might actually make them easier to follow.
