Here is a great tool that provides transparency with regards to the student's writing process. The time actively typing data alone says something about student labor. Also, a quick glance at the calendar allows them to reflect honestly as they self-assess their writing habits. Writing accomplished in a single 3-hour session a day before a deadline says something. And writing accomplished during 30-minute "sprints" over a series of several days speaks something else. The color-coded chart gives a visual to the recursive process of revision work. This is a genius move by the process feedback folks. A quick glance tells the student the scope of their revision labor. IF we are going to AI proof our future, we need tools like this to celebrate and instill value in writing as a process. Granted, NONE of this means the writing is any good. BUT! Time on task, and all the tools to aid in self-assessment and reflection are keys to success for writers of all shapes.

I this is by far, the most helpful and useful tool I have leveraged as an English professor; and now that it is fully integrated with Google Classroom, it is a seamless part of my reviewing/grading process. First, Process Feedback provides indisputable evidence (in the form of a 'writing movie' and time stamps) that the student did the writing work. Second, the information I learn from the 'writing movie' helps me be more strategic and thoughtful about my own feedback to the student. Finally, students can watch the 'writing movie' and learn more about their own respective writing process: how long did you write; when did you double-back to revise; in what ways did your idea evolve; when did you write; etc. It helps students thinking metacognitively about their writing in an empowering manner. This tools is amazing. Please keep free.

This looks like an excellent tool if you need further evidence to conclude whether or not learners have been misusing AI in their assignments. It is nowhere near conclusive but a useful tool in an educators armoury.
