When you install Scholar Reader, PDFs on all sites will have a new look in Chrome. To make this happen, Chrome will ask for permissions to read and change data on all sites. Scholar Reader makes no changes other than the presentation of PDFs.
• Preview references as you read. Click the in-text citation to see a summary and find the PDF.
• Read faster with the AI outline. Get a quick overview and click on interesting bullets to jump within the paper.
• Highlight and comment on PDFs. Highlights are saved to your Scholar library.
• Make it right for your eyes with light, dark, and night modes.
• Copy and paste common citation formats without leaving the paper.

Save references to Zotero from your web browser
Very impressive — lessens memory burden by eliminating a lot of back-and-forth when reading papers.
Awesome idea but not quite there yet. If they can add just a few more features and fine-tune it a bit this will easily be a genuine step forward in reading digital documents. The generation of the contents, and of the added in-document hyperlinks are impressive. Doesn't work all the time but works often enough. As of right now this is the only reason to use this addon. What is needs is the ability to highlight/annotate/add comments, and the ability to see the pages in a two-page layout, like you can on the regular chrome pdf viewer and on acrobat. It would be particularly nice if, on the two page view, you have the option of having the cover page be in two page view or not (like you can on Acrobat), so that if there's a cover you can still see the pages in the correct opposing view (i.e., odd pages on the right and evens on the left). Really hope this continues to be developed and not abandoned like most google projects of this nature these days.
Doesn't provide any tools for annotating or note taking, not even a highlighter! Utterly useless for now.
Really cool, and works great like 90% of the time. I wish there was a setting to have the outline hidden by default, since I don't use it as often and I normally just hide it. I would also like a smoother experience for turning it on and off for a particular pdf, since if I want to edit the pdf in Edge currently I need to turn this extension off in the browser settings. The outline is also probably the least reliable feature, as the accuracy depends on the article and it doesn't seem to use the outline a pdf already has if it has one, opting to try to make its own (or failing to make one at all). The ability to see references and figures easily is very helpful. Edit: In a few recent papers I've read, this plugin incorrectly interprets exponents as references (in a Nature article). This is also mildly annoying.
Barely unusable at the moment, you get seeing the citations directly from the [X] quotes BUT everything else in the navigation is awful. 1) all the other links in the document do not work (i want to be able to click on a table of contents and get to the linked place), 2) super slow at loading up stuff (maybe spawn the pdf table of contents as soon as i open the file while the cool features of the extension are loading?) I want to be able to navigate the default version of the pdf as soon as i click it, the cool stuff can wait (and i do not mind waiting for that while i scan the table of contents myself). 3) add a way to move around in the pdf -> i click on a referenced section, i want to be able to go back to the place i clicked if i feel like it. In any case i see a huge potential for this extension, once this things get fixed i think it will become a staple edit: would be cool on top of seeing the entry for scholar if we could also see the review of the paper entry for each citation, since there may be extra information
how to use this?
Interesting!!
Such a good tool indeed! Please just add the highlighter function like is available when reading pdfs normally!
Love the look up citing, The night mode also looks good.
A few months ago I went searching for good PDF readers or Latex HTML readers but nothing had the features I wanted. This extension does exactly what I want. You can preview paper references in little popup windows. And it has a good night mode. Is this doing some kind of performance optimization? PDFs seem to load much faster with this tool.
