Ever started watching something on Netflix, just to notice eventually that it's really bad?

This free and lightweight extension adds IMDb Ratings right into Netflix, so you know what you're getting yourself into before hitting the play button.

Pro Tips:

- The IMDb Rating features a Tooltip that includes more meta information (plot, awards, metascore, etc.).

- When you click the IMDb Rating a new tab will be opened with the respective IMDb page (which includes trailers and more information).

Permissions are overly broad: it wants to show notifications, see data from all websites and run a script in the background. I don't see a good reason for an extension that could be just a content script to have those permissions. The code is obfuscated, which makes inspecting it harder than it should be, but here's what I found: * "cookies", "contextMenus", "storage", "unlimitedStorage" - these seem to be completely unused, relevant Chrome APIs are not invoked at all. "cookies" has side effects, but everything works even without relying on them. * "tabs" - used to reload pages when the extension is installed and activate existing Netflix page when extension button is clicked. * "notifications" - used only to display greeting notification. * "background" - this is a hint to Chrome to start early and shut down late. Documentation uses displaying notifications as an example use case, but background script is able to run regardless of this. Below is a patch for version 2.7.2 that removes browser action button, irrelevant permissions and pieces of code that use chrome.tabs, chrome.notifications and chrome.browserAction APIs. I'm now using a version with this patch (loaded from a local folder) and everything works perfectly. Link to the patch: https://gist.github.com/gelraen/9734954faa31b4d5a0ce1ddb407c068f P.S.: the extension uses uNoGS.com as a backend, not imdb.com directly, which might explain differences between ratings displayed by extension and IMDB itself reported in other reviews.

It seems to work, but the permissions that it asks for are overly broad. Why would the app need permission to read & change my data on other sites than Netflix?

I have noticed on a couple of movies that the IMDb is wrong e.g.1922 (2017) the extension rates the movie at 7.7, but it is in fact 6.5 on the imbd website - hmmmm!

Works better than the other one I tried. But it could filter titles with less than a given rating.

This really works..but sometimes when a movie is new on Netflix it says "IMDb: no rating" but if you click that it opens a new imdb chrome page which shows the current rating. But this does save alot of time looking for stuff to watch!!!!
