Go back with the backspace button! This extension re-enables the backspace key as a back navigation button -- except if you're writing text.
What's New in 3.0:

* Updated to Manifest V3.
Before Chrome 52, the backspace key navigated back (if you weren't writing text). Many people lost their progress while working online by accidentally pressing backspace and leaving a page -- so we removed the feature from Chrome, and created this extension for those who prefer the old behavior.
This extension can't restore backspace on certain special pages, for example any of the "chrome://" pages such as Settings or Extensions.

Doesn't work
My most frequently used extension by far! And when I had a question about the extension, I had an unbelievably quick response. Thank you!

It works. Not ideally, but still comfortable.
This extension should'nt exist. Just go back to the previous behavior, or at least add an option to let us re-enable the shortcut...

I didn't know for a long time that this was made by Google themselves. This gives me hope that Google really cares about its users.
Like many people here, I was angry with Google's change. But unlike most people here who gave it a 1-star rating out of anger, I was actually equipped with an average intelligence. I actually googled (irony intended) their reason for this change, and I realized it's a very valid reason. This change was made so people who was filling out forms don't accidentally lose everything when they press backspace thinking a form was selected. I've been there, I know the frustration. And unlike other companies, Google knows removing this feature is not something everybody wants, so they made this plugin for people who didn't ask for it. If anything, people should be grateful instead of voting this down like idiots. That is all
Google are often known for taking two steps forward (making their own phone OS) and one step backwards (copying Apple). Sadly, they went full-Apple on Chrome and removed this essential keyboard shortcut that laptop users rely on. Someone at Google knows what they were doing - thanks whoever it was who coded this extension.
