Go back with the backspace button! This extension re-enables the backspace key as a back navigation button -- except if you're writing text.
What's New in 3.0:

* Updated to Manifest V3.
Before Chrome 52, the backspace key navigated back (if you weren't writing text). Many people lost their progress while working online by accidentally pressing backspace and leaving a page -- so we removed the feature from Chrome, and created this extension for those who prefer the old behavior.
This extension can't restore backspace on certain special pages, for example any of the "chrome://" pages such as Settings or Extensions.

Works more reliably than it did initially. Still a lot of sites where it does not work, but at least it works on reddit now. It's still an awkward work around for a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place. The backspace to go back shortcut is for all practical purposes the standard and removing that functionality from chrome was ridiculous.
First off. As I'm sure many people have said already, this shouldn't even be needed. Make it an option in chrome. Not an extension. Second, this doesn't even work properly as it does go back while typing in some text boxes, kicking me off the page I was typing in. Something that Chrome didn't do when backspace to go back was built in, like every other modern browser.
Should never have been removed in the first place. Maybe an option to disable but was silly to have removed

once you install it, close and reopen chrome. it does not work in settings, extensions, store, etc. special pages.

doesn't work. why remove a legendary feature. never lost anything in my life due to backspace. so annoying.

Does not work. All that changed is that now when I hit backspace, I get a 'helpful' little notice telling me to use Alt+left.
