Works great even with lots of tabs (unlike The Great Suspender)
I installed it because I usually have more than 150-200 tabs open at a time (please don't ask why) and all I need this extension to disable loading of just all the tabs at system start-up and only the ones I want or go into should open. Is such a thing possible with this ? Please explain. I would edit my rating if supported on this. Thanks !
A new style of the Great Tab Suspender!
I've used this for several months now. While indeed it saves 40-50% of my RAM when enabled, the truth is there are serious problems with this extension. First, no doubt about it, over time it consistently crashes the Chrome browser. I've found that the main Chrome Process in Win 7 or 10 Task Manager regularly build up to 1-1.5GB RAM usage before Chrome takes a dump. Secondly, I've found that quite regularly that "suspended tabs" are crashed and need reloading. In other words, to revive them, you must hit refresh. In of itself that's not a big deal, but here's the rub: if Chrome crashes when you have tabs that have also crashed, then they are lost. That means when you re-start Chrome, all those "suspended tabs" in Tab Suspender that were actually "crashed" rather than suspended won't reappear once Chrome re-starts. Yet another example of the same problem is when you disable Tab Suspender in Chrome Extensions Manager, all crashed tabs will be lost when you re-enable. It's the same fatal flaw, just executed in a different manner. Combined, that's a HUGE PROBLEM for me. Basically, Tab Suspender causes as many problems as it does solutions. Finally, another complaint of mine is that Tab Suspender doesn't easily remember website pages or URLs that you never want suspended. For instance, I want to permanently disable Tab Suspender on Yahoo Mail or other webpages that I use regularly. Yet each time Chrome crashes, I restart Tab Suspender or restart my PC/laptop, I have to enable "ignore tab" for each page I want to keep active. If Tab Suspender offers this feature, then they didn't do it in a simple, easy way to understand or comprehend. I've tried going into "All Settings" and adding URLs into Exceptions, but it hasn't worked. What would make the most sense of all is if Tab Suspender offered me this function on the drop down menu, such as "Permanently Ignore" or something like that. Finally, speaking of the drop down menu, I think it was a supremely dumb design to put the "Ignore Current Tab" button next to the "Pause Suspender" button. If by chance you accidentally pause suspender, then you can make an annoying mistake that you can do without ...
It would be a good extension if it didn't change the tab thumbnail.

Very easy to use and does it's intended job very well. Just a few little tweeks needed, IMHO. 1. What is the point of having the right click option to come here, to the Chrome Web Store page for this extension? The only thing I can think of is to do what I'm doing now, which is leaving feedback. Better to have this at the bottom of the list, and make clear it's for feedback, and link directly to this feedback tab. 2. Use that first line to have the most used, or a user-selectable, action. My suggestion would be to put Suspend Current Tab there. While your at it, put all suspend and unsuspend actions in the right click first level list and have an "Other Actions" sublist for everything else. That makes the most used options the quickest and easiest to access = better usability. Thanks for a great extension. Also 3. Feature suggestion. "Suspend Selected Tabs" when multiple tabs selected. Defaults to "Suspend Current Tab" when only one selected.
Dude, very nice!I always find myself cluttering my browser with many tabs and always wished, that they would just stop rendering when not active.Thank you so much for this add-on!Also, i like how you can see the tabs icons gradually become grey. This is a nice time indicator.Another thing i like is, that you "out of the box" simply have to move your mouse inside the tabs window to automatically activate it again and that you can still see if it is the right tab.Very elegant.
great extension... actually better then The Great Suspender...
I lost all my suspended tabs in an automatic update.
