Extension to return old Twitter layout from 2015 (or 2018). WORKS IN 2026!
This extension doesn't add any CSS on top of original Twitter. It's fully different client that replaces original new Twitter client, making it faster than alternatives that just add style on top of Twitter. This extension requires you to be logged in to Twitter account.
Please visit https://twitter.com/old/settings after installing to make it work just as you like. It switches to chronological timeline by default, you can switch back to algorithmical timeline in settings.
You can visit unchanged Twitter by visiting https://twitter.com?newtwitter=true.
The code is open source! Check https://github.com/dimdenGD/OldTwitter to see the code and report any issues.

I love and prefer this extension as it simplifies X for me and takes me back to earlier times. It's only problem, and this is a minor one, is that with a single dev, if X updates, the extension has to update, and this can take time as the dev has to get said update approved for release in the store. 18 MAR 2026, X did just that, updated, and now I have to keep the extension off until it updates. I recommend this for anyone wanting a taste of old Twitter!
Was working for a bit until it stopped yesterday (3/17) showing me this error: "Oldtwitter doesn’t allow unsigned requests anymore for your account security. Currently the main reason for this happening is social network tracker protection blocking the script. Try disabling such settings in your browser and extensions that do that and refresh the page. This can also happen if you’re not logged in." Please get it back up and running ASAP!! Thank you
It was great while it lasted. Hopefully we can find a way to make it work again! Awesome work devs!

Now that Elon Musk got rid of Dim mode I thin we need an update that allows for the layout to look like the modern and fix it so that Premium users can use the extended character count. I feel like you are going to get more people using this from now on so adding the modern look is going to be essential now.
