I once loved this extension. It saved me space on BlueSky to post my links about my books and such. It made sharing things easier. I decided to check a link I had JUST posted in the morning, and it was redirecting to weirdness. I checked a few others. For every one that was working properly, others were broken and leading people to sites on the Chrome store. This is unacceptable. I guess I will have to do it the old-fashioned way, or try my luck with another shortener. It was nice while it lasted, but it's bad for business and potentially dangerous if it links to a site with malicious intent.
This add on is a scam now. When short link it will short, if you click it can redirect smoothly. Main part of scam is after few click it will redirect only this plugin google page not on your url. Beware don't use it anymore.
I have been using this extension for years but suddenly it has started generating links that link to a QR code extension instead of the page I had used it on. I discovered this because I gave a shortened link to someone and they asked why I was spamming them with a QR code extension. Imagine my surprise! Now this is just malware junk.
Finally found a good URL shortener which is truly free, and caching the previous result. This extension also smartly choose the shortening service.
This product is excellent. Its one of the easiest and reliable chrome extensions i've used.
Works great and quite useful for my day to internet activities and marketing purpose. I strongly recommend!
old shortlinks (bityl.co) not working anymore, all my old short links has been lost I am very upset
Works like a champ, not too fussy and demanding!
I have to agree with @Noodles in their review below. I believe what they mean by "phishing-style link" is that the url "https://bityl.co/OyMT" (which is what this extension shortens this Chrome Web Store page to,) looks like it is directing users to a malicious website. Why? Because it is underhanded and suspicious, and a well-known tactic of actual malicious entities. They make people think they are clicking on a familiar link (something like "www.AmazonHelp.co" instead of "https://amazon.com/hz/contact-us/" and they do the same thing with email addresses) because they rely on the fact that many internet users do not pay close attention to the links they are clicking or the web addresses they direct them to. It is obvious that "bityl.co" is spoofing "bit.ly", attempting to appear to be the trusted "bit.ly" instead of an unknown and highly sus knockoff. In his response, the developer is either acting in bad faith by pretending that he is unaware of what this means, or he is truly clueless about internet security, and whichever option is correct doesn't matter to me because they've lost my trust completely. You can be original and make up your own link instead of using a common phishing tactic (SPOOFING), or you can own up to the fact that you're doing shady things to fly under the radar unnoticed. Feigning ignorance isn't a good look for a "dev".
Thank you for this handy free tool! I find it most convenient. Will tracking and maybe broken link alerts ever be a feature?
