It works great, but a workaround for when filters don't show up for a movie on Amazon prime. When you're on an Amazon movie page, and in the Clearplay extension dropdown, if it only shows the "browse movies" list when it should be showing "Filters Available!" or "Sorry, No Filters Available" then here's the fix: Just select any movie showing in the list of movies you can browse in the Clearplay extension dropdown. Just pick one. Then it shows the filters for it. Then go back and search for the Amazon movie, then click the Clearplay extension... bam! There they are. Funny, but it works. Oh, and the search feature has been broken for years in the extension, so don't even try that. But 5 stars for great filtering! It's worth it for sure.
ClearPlay is such a great service. With it I can enjoy movies the way I want to enjoy them, and even share some great movies with my kids. The collection of filtered movies is always growing, and they do a great job of making new releases available quickly. If you are like me and would like to enjoy movies without all the unnecessary/objectionable content, I highly recommend it.
Two thumbs up!
I have only tested it for HBOMax. Filtering doesn't work when you cast to Chromecast or Android box. They need to make an Android Box version since the current setup from laptop to TV doesn't work. Even in the Chrome browser, I occasionally get an error that "filtering only works with Ad-free HBOMax subscription." I am getting my subscription through AT&T broadband. I have already checked in my HBOMax account and made sure that my subscription is ad-free.
WARNING DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO. I signed up for the free trial thinking that I'd try it out for a day and see if it was any good and then cancel if I didn't like it. I was not that impressed, especially being a Canadian user I didn't see any good options. Pretty brutal software. I then went to login on their website which is suspiciously challenging to get to (they don't provide links anywhere, you have to manually get there) and I tried to log into my account of which I know the password, not only did Chrome save the password for me when I made the account, I also made it 5 minutes earlier and knew exactly what it was supposed to be. It kept telling me I had an "invalid login". I then tried the "forgot password option" and it does nothing. I tried it twice and have received no "password reset option" in my email, checked junk folder too. I'm convinced now that they have my credit card info, they have given me no way to opt out of the subscription service and will just continue to charge my credit card.
I've been a customer of ClearPlay for about 7 years and rate their filters at 95% successful. The Chrome extension does not work, period. After installing the extension and signing in, I bring up a movie on Amazon that is on the streaming list (Roman J. Isreal, ESQ), tap the puzzle button and find the software is off. ???? No messages, no error codes, nothing, just frustration.
You should add an option to filter out skimpy clothing, as well as an option to filter out kissing entirely. Then it would be better. Thank you!
I love the ability to filter the language from PG and PG-13 movies that are otherwise good entertainment. The selection of movies is much better than VidAngel because of its legal troubles with Disney studios. ClearPlay worked reliably on all ~10 Marvel movies on Disney+ so far, but The Martian (rented) on Amazon mostly did not filter any language. It was shocking to find out with an f-bomb. Tech support had me reinstall and it seems to work, but I am not sure it's reliable because we're done with this movie. My biggest wish is that it would work without a need to hook up my HP Chromebook to my TV over HDMI, but it's not too bad using a wireless USB mouse as a remote control. This is where VidAngel excels because it plays through Roku. What would be best is if the streaming publishers would incorporate this functionality directly into their platforms. They offer English Descriptive Service and many languages, so why not content filters? Until then, I will be using ClearPlay for family movie time
So far it's absolutely useless. Add on says the filter is on and give a list of items to that have been filtered but it has not skipped once and I've heard every single item on the list in 'Hamilton' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. I would say it doesn't work with Disney+ at all. I'll try Amazon next
It was great when it worked. I was able to watch the first Daniel Craig James Bond and it removed all the sex scenes...I thought, Hey this is going to be awesome!! But ever since then, the Chrome Extension has not worked for me. I've tried restarting, clicking around, signing in and out, and so on...nothing. I will end my subscription bc this is just too buggy. I wish it worked and I wish the company was responsive (as you can see in these comments they aren't). Save your money. Pray for another company to rise up.
