This extension enables the use of IBM Aspera Connect with Chrome. This extension requires the IBM Aspera Connect application, version 3.9.0 or newer.
The purpose of this extension and the corresponding desktop application is to move large files FAST from your computer to an IBM Aspera server.
You need to have an account on an Aspera server to move files.
FASP is the protocol used to move files much faster than is possible over TCP/IP. The application has to be where the network is.
Privacy statement: This extension is activated only by websites that integrate IBM Aspera to transfer files. This extension does not read or store any personal information.

Aspera is the most inconvenient unusable file transfer server. Save your money because it makes it impossible for your customers to send you anything because it always fails to authenticate and never give a reason why, even when the transfer test passes every time. This thing is absolute junk.
The protocol itself is incredible. This plugin is finecky as hell and outdated/works about 80% of the time if you look to the western sky and raise your left arm to the exact right angle while humming America the Beautiful.
Nonfunctional garbage
I have a Chromebook. Apparently, Aspera for desktop can only be installed on a Windows device (or Mac OS, or Linux). That is my own conclusion, after spending hours online looking for a solution or workaround. Even my company's helpdesk did not know this. And yes, I did install the extension first.
For NCBI upload, whatever the NCBI website says, you need to download & install this plug-in PLUS "Aspera Connect" (you can download .msi file from IBM site" to have everything working. NCBI's instruction wasn't very clear about this. Hope this helps.
Doesn't work to upload fastq data to SRA on NCBI.
