I just use this checker to quickly get to my gmail page. Instead of hitting the new tab button, and then clicking on gmail.... I just hit the little button and it brings up a *new* tab with my gmail stuff in one fell swoop. I just like hitting a button and things happening. Also, don't need to have gmail in my bookmarks bar anymore, freeing up some space. Kinda cool. ** I finally saw a little number notification on the icon and used it to check an email. VERY COOL. Now I am using it for it's intended purpose!** I am not sure If keeping the gmail tab interferes with the extension working (does it assume if you have a gmail tab open you are viewing all new emails that come?) Not sure, so I just close a gmail tab when I'm not actively typing up an email or checking email.

does nothing for mail which gmail had already. It takes you to pages that don't even make sense. Google is becoming harder instead of simplifying
