I have 2 extensions I can't live without and Ghostery is one of them. The absolute, unbelievably, ridiculously best part is that if you put Firefox on your android phone, you can install Ghostery in it and block ads. This sounds silly, but if you've ever opened a website laden with ads where each paragraph of an article is followed by an ad, and there's a floating, unrelated video on the screen, and popups, give them a mental middle finger and open the website in Firefox on your phone! I have Ghostery installed everywhere, and I install it for friends and clients. If I had to give it a negative, it's that it's ruined my expectations for browsing the internet. I literally pity people who don't use this extension. PS I work in IT and I'm a 'native internetto'.

I’ve been running this for a couple of years now, and the difference between using it on my PC and not having it on my jailbroken Amazon Fire or my phone is stark. On my PC 'aside from occasionally having to turn it off for YouTube when it starts whining about not being able to spam me with mostly scam ads' it does a great job of reducing intrusive advertising. On the Fire or my phone without it, especially when screen space matters, the experience is awful: ads at the top, middle, and bottom of the screen, all fighting for attention. In short, download this. You may need to pause it for YouTube once in a while, but otherwise it’s a godsend. P.S. This is admittedly a bit self-selected, since you tend to notice the worst offenders more than sites that are reasonably restrained. That said, the advice still holds. Some sites do ask me to disable it because they’re ad-supported, and if I respect the site and they aren’t obnoxious about it, I do so.

I forget I have it until I am using someone else's computer. Ghostery allows a user to quite the chaos of intrusive ads. I don't use the paid version which makes the free version a gift I am thankful for. I feel a little guilty about not upgrading. Thank you Ghostery!
