Removes audio ads on Spotify™ Web Player
was already epic that it was a Spotify ad blocker but now its a general ad blocker so I watch YouTube in peace
I've had Blockify installed for a few months now, and until the most recent update, it had worked great for its declared purpose -- blocking audio ads. And then, all of a sudden, it started DEMANDING that I enable it on ALL sites. I already have a general-purpose ad blocker, which, unlike most others, is very successful at handling YouTube ads, so I don't need to have a second one running side-by-side with it on every page (in fact, I can't, because that interferes with my main ad blocker's function on YT). Unfortunately, when I try to disable the All Websites option in Blockify, it immediately puts up the prompt again... and again, and again. All of a sudden, it's gone from being an extremely useful Chrome extension to an extremely annoying one, that is pushing me to once again begin looking for an alternative audio ad blocker. Before this started happening, I would have easily given it 5 stars for its stellar performance on its main task, but now, I'm knocking it down to 4 stars, and only because I still have the hope the developers will see the light and lay off their strongarm tactics. From your replies on other reviews, I can see it's a very conscious decision you have made to force this change on your users. Think for a second about WHY people install Blockify in the first place -- it's NOT because their existing blockers aren't good at their job on the vast majority of sites, including YT (they ARE!), but because they fail on just ONE site. Do you really think the way to keep your loyal friends is by demanding they stop seeing everyone else because now you're going to tag along with them everywhere they go and be their ONLY friend? Are you really so sure you can satisfy ALL our needs, so we don't need other friends? If you do, oh, boy, are you in trouble! If you stop this madness, I'll bump my review up to 5 stars, otherwise, it'll be ONE star and an uninstall. UPDATE 2024-11-06: Finally uninstalled this extension, as it had become totally useless. It stopped working even for its one intended purpose: blocking Spotify ads. It was succeeding in MUTING the first ad that came up, but would then get stuck on it and not move on to the the next song. So, after 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted playing, the music would suddenly stop and when I looked at the screen, it showed an ad that had finished playing, but wouldn't go away. I'd suggest the developers take a good look at their strategy in dealing with the public. Between their arrogant, snarky ripostes to people complaining about being forced to use this extension on ALL sites or not at all, plus a product that simply doesn't work, they are burning the bridges to their users.
"when you already have a car, you don't really need a bi-cycle." BLUD REALLY THINKS HE COOKED 💀💀💀
great
Uninstalled. In all honesty, deviating away from your original idea of being specifically for Spotify isn't that useful of a decision. Extensions that are trusted to do this are probably used by the majority of the people here. In fact, I'd say a major reason people originally used this was because they realized their adblocker didn't work great on Spotify, so they downloaded this. Plus, THERE'S NO OPT-OUT! The toggle for "All Websites" is locked to basically be an off switch. In other words, to use the extension you HAVE to let them control ads for everything. Those users who use adblockers? Well, something about adblockers is that multiple of them can be detrimental to adblocking. Considering the fact that the adblocking this extension does is iffy at best, it's not a change for the good. Focus on improving the adblocking on Spotify instead of branching out and making a change that nobody asked for or wants. Also, "Feel free to make baseless assumptions, But permission to block ads on all websites is required by ALL cross-platform adblockers. How Blockify stands out is by blocking audio and video ads, in addition to general website-level adblocking." You didn't provide any details on WHAT you do with the data you're now collecting from your users, so you could very well be selling it to advertisers. Plus, all modern adblockers can easily block video ads, uBlock can on video hosting sites and YouTube if you use scripts to remove the anti-adblocking overlay; additionally, any adblocker on the planet is built to block general website-level ads. So, the only thing you at least can try to do that even the others fail at is audio adblocking, and even that isn't a great experience.
Stick with what you are marketed for. Forcing you to allow all sites before being able to use its intended feature ridiculous. Something fishy going on here.
It was good but they recently changed it to block ads across all websites, not just Spotify. This is annoying because if you already have a regular ad block, the additional one will mess with it, and they'll both be rendered useless on certain websites. If you only need a blocker for Spotify and nothing else, I recommend finding a different extension.
It was great until the recent update. The extension no longer function as it forces you to give full acess on all website in order to block ads on spotify.
It was a great extention till today. I don't want to give an access to all websites and forcing of this permisson looks suspiciously.
Hey, is there a update log? Also awsome job!
