"Audio only youtube" chrome extension enables you to disable only video on youtube which saves internet usage more than 50% when you want to listen songs on youtube.
**Note: It doesn't support Youtube Live Videos.**
You can enable/disable it by just clicking on the icon shown in the extension bar.
Audio only youtube is an open-source project licensed under GPLv3. You can find sources here :

Stopped working again unfortunately as of 07th Feb 2024. Edit: Was working for a few months but as of 04th July it's not been working for atleast a week now. Due to the unpredictable status of this extension and very few (if any) updates from the developer, uninstalling and replacing with Music Mode for YouTube which seems to work much better than this.
it's not working. 01-02-2024 !!!
The extension is currently broken in its state, completely bugs out when changing a song in a playlist, and makes YouTube and YouTube Music play the same song for whatever new song it switches to. Incredibly annoying.
It worked. It is useful in both cases, reducing internet usage and reducing cpu usage.
La extensión funciona a veces, pero cuando funciona lo hace muy bien. Lo uso principalmente para disminuir la cantidad de recursos que usa Chrome al reproducir videos (Te puedes ahorrar entre 150mb y casi 1gb de ram). Así que en equipos con poca ram viene de maravilla.
Diciembre de 2023. Sigue funcionando.
Only negative feedback I have is that it doesn't work for live streams, other than that it does its job grand. I'm on Brave browser, maybe that's got something to do with it?
It's currently working both on YouTube and YouTube music, I'm using the latest version of Opera GX and got the extension from Chrome Web Store! If I notice some issue, I'll leave further feedback.
