Product summary

The Twitter interface is filled with numbers. These numbers, or metrics, measure and present our social value and activity online, enumerating followers, likes, retweets, and more. But what are the effects of these numbers on who we follow, what we post, or how we feel when we use the site? Inviting us to consider these questions through our own experience, Twitter Demetricator is a web browser extension that hides the metrics. Follower, like, and notification counts disappear. “29.2K Tweets” under a trending hashtag becomes, simply, “Tweets”. Through changes like these, Demetricator lets us try out Twitter without the numbers, to see what happens when we can no longer judge ourselves and others in metric terms. With this artwork, I aim to disrupt our obsession with social media metrics, to reveal how they guide our behavior, and to ask who most benefits from a system that quantifies our public interactions online.

Works with https://twitter.com and https://tweetdeck.twitter.com.

100% support for many language versions of Twitter, including English, English (UK), German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, Norwegian, Hungarian, and Sweedish; near full support for many other languages.

I found the twitters numbers are too addictive! I found myself constantly checking the follower numbers for increase or decrease. I felt bad if I see people quit following. Felt good if I saw more people followed. This has affect on the brain dopamine reward circuit. This can't be good. This plugin instantly hide all the metrics without setting after installation. Now, I feel peace. Thank you!

It works like it intended to do. And (as a content creator) I can't use twitter without this extension. Indispensable. Thank you very much for my sanity.

This is incredible for my mental health. I do wish There was an option to show reply count, however. I do want to engage with my followers. So I'd like to see how many replies a post has. I just don't want to see likes, RTs, and especially, how many followers I have. If you could make it so replies could be toggled on, it would be perfect. I am grateful for the extension all the same!

I know this is perhaps kind of "defeating the point" but I still would really prefer to see mine, via whitelist. I've been needing to hide everyone else's metrics for a long time so this is a lifesaver. Being able to toggle mine and only mine on or off would be even better. I'm also planning on sending this to some of my friends who are hyper active on Twitter as well. ^u^

Really like the idea with this extension. My only issue with it is that when I hover over a post, it still ends up showing me the metrics of that post. If I'm not moused over it, the numbers are hidden but as soon as I mouse of it, they come back

Great extension to help with insecurity and anxiety caused by social media, would reccomend. However, it could use soe ore items like hiding replies, hiding the date of the tweet once expanded (when viewing it on a timeline, it hides the time at the top right, but when expanded you still see the date posted). And possible the ability to hide related tweets section too. d(-_☆)

Just installed this and I'm already so happy. As an artist, I absolutely struggle with critically analyzing the amount of engagement I get and compare it to others around me. I'm ecstatic to have these numbers hidden from me so I can focus less on others and moreso on myself and feeling better about the works I put out. Truly- thank you so much.
