xTab is a Chrome extension that lets you limit the maximum number of tabs that can be open at one time.
You can set the tab limit to any number and choose what tab should be removed when you hit that limit:
- Least recently used (default)
- Least accessed
- Oldest
You can alternatively block new tabs from opening completely once the limit has been reached.

I've been using this for months and just now I found out that when I hit 20, it closes tabs without asking. That's bad UX. The default setting should be the pop up telling me I've reached my limit. Otherwise I'm losing info and have no idea what it is.
Dude you're awesome! I've been looking for a fix like this for so long. I watch anime and a lot of sites have their video players hijacked so when you click them they open random ad's in a new tabs (annoying and dangerous. I have 3 popup blockers and even they miss some of the popups. This extension finally solved the problem. Searching online everyone just kept saying virus virus virus but I know I don't have a virus and it's the websites themselves that have been hijacked. This is by far my new favorite extension and a must have for any anime fan or those that have random tabs opening on certain websites. Thanks Again.

This helps fill the holes that Popup blockers don't address. Now I just need to find "Block new Windows" tool.

Does not work across multiple windows
Simple, clean, and easy. It will definitely keep my browser organized. You can choose any number of tabs to be able to use, and prevent yourself from creating any more until you clean up the old ones. Nice job!

Wow... now it is a requirement to finish one site/page before moving to another site/page. I like the configuration of replacing least used tab with new one.
