This extension will show you the password in plain text when cursor is over password fields.
You can also change when to show password in options.

Does what it is supposed to. Now to find out if it does more than it is supposed to. (I presume it is merely inspecting element and setting the textbox to 'text' from 'password' type?

This is a great extension, does what it's supposed to well and nothing else. Showing passwords is the one thing that IE has and I wish chrome had.
