📍 Precision is achieved with Google's free DNS-over-HTTPS service.
The backend that I run at 🔐 https://geoip.furman.im provides country, city, region, and post code data.
🙅♀️ Extension respects user's privacy. Neither it listens to user's network traffic, nor does it collect any data, nor does it track or identify users in any way, and never will. The same applies to the backend service.
🥬 GeoLite2 database created by MaxMind, available from maxmind.com, is updated twice a week – on Tuesdays and Fridays, so geographical data is always as fresh as MaxMind makes it.

It works fairly well but It seems that it is not using the local dns / hosts at all. If something in my hosts file is set to another ip, it still gives the one specified in whatever it is using. This makes it pretty useless to me, it took me a while to know that this was the case, wasting a lot of my time.
Security-Nightmare? Seems to collect and sell browser histories?

Simple but useful in some cases. Works as described.
After a Chrome update the flag icon shows up with the menu buttons rather than flush right on the URL bar itself, cluttering the menu bar unfortunately.
