So far the extension is great, doesn't do anything out of the ordinary (meaning nothing that would be a cause for concern like phoning home things it shouldn't, exfiltrating data, redirecting or anything along those lines that would be malware like). Really happy with the extension and now running it on Chrome, Firefox and will be running it on all my systems going forward because one of my fears is an extension being taken over by a bad actor, and then turning a once good extension into a source of malware. This extension helps me to know (via notifications) when an extension is installed, removed, updated, or has the publisher email changed. Plus the info on their site is great too! Seriously, great extension! I reached out to Support RE: the extension throwing some error codes in dev tools (console specifically) which ended up just being that Extension Guard was not loading some of my other extensions favicons. Hao let me know why it was not loading them (browser security restrictions) which makes total sense and is fair. They can only play within the browser extension rules that they are afforded. And it (not loading the extensions favicons) doesn't break functionality at all, just maybe doesn't look as clean as I'd like. I wish the browser would allow them to load the favicons from the web store or wherever but again not something they can do without busting out of the rules they are given by Google, Mozilla, Microsoft, etc. so its not on them; and Google/Mozilla/Microsoft have very valid reasons for not allowing this to occur I'm sure.
Writing this just in spite of Naresh Sharma... what a bozo
I use the extension to check what permissions an extension requires before installing it from the Chrome Store. The update from March 19, 2025 causes two issues: 1. Removed popup function --> FIXED Before you could choose between a popup or sidebar when clicking the extension's icon. The popup option has been removed. Now only the sidebar is shown, which already takes 1/5 of the screen and cannot be toggled on/off anymore with 1 click on the extension's icon. 2. More permissions The new version requires more permissions. Before: tabs, sidePanel Now: management, notifications, storage, tabs, sidePanel I prefer the simple popup design and less intrusive permissions of the older version. Thanks for all your hard work and time you put into it. Edit: Glad to see the popup functionality working again. About point 2, I understand that the new functionalities need additional permissions, even if they are not needed for my specific use case. Final verdict - 4/5
