It works (April 2026)
Would be great if i worked in the slightest.
Didn't work for me either just like Lee said. Joined the call with a coworker and camera was on by default
So this doesn't even remotely work. I set it to disable camera by default. Joined a Hangouts call and then 3CX webmeeting and both of them popped up me on video right away. Useless.
Finally I can remove the ugly band-aid from my notebook's camera.
Google didn't care to include it. You did it for us. Thanks a ton.
Finally! Turns off the camera (and/or mic) by default in Hangouts.
