AI product readHardware bridge extension enabling Nuance PowerMic dictation microphones to work with Dragon Medical Embedded speech recognition in Chrome web applications
Allows healthcare professionals using Nuance PowerMic hardware to dictate and control speech recognition in web-based EHR/clinical applications through Chrome, bridging the gap between physical dictation hardware and browser-based workflows
User installs extension → Extension injects adapter API (NucaPowerMicChromeAdapter.js) into web pages → Web pages with Dragon Medical Embedded call the adapter API → Extension communicates with native PowerMic adapter via Chrome nativeMessaging → Physical PowerMic button presses are translated to speech recognition commands → Device state (LEDs, activation) is managed per-tab via a state machine

- Target users
- Healthcare professionals using Dragon Medical speech recognition / Clinicians using Nuance PowerMic dictation hardware in web-based EHR systems / Medical transcriptionists working in Chrome-based clinical applications
- Cannot verify the native adapter application (com.nuance.pmicadapter) source code as it is distributed as an .exe installer from speechanywhere.nuancehdp.com
- The downstream Dragon Medical Embedded product is a commercial/licensed product, but that is external to the extension itself
MonetizationNo paid features detected
No payment-related keywords (premium, subscription, payment, upgrade, billing, stripe) found in source code. The 'pro' keyword matches are all false positives from JavaScript 'prototype', 'property', 'process', and 'prop' variables. The extension is a hardware adapter bridge for Nuance PowerMic devices. While the downstream Dragon Medical product is commercial, the extension itself does not gate features, call billing APIs, or show upgrade UI.

- Reason
- The extension contains no authentication UI, no account/password/OAuth references, and no login-gated workflows. The keyword 'login' hits in NucaPowerMicChromeAdapter.js are all false positives matching the logging function 'logInfo'. The extension communicates with a locally installed native adapter (com.nuance.pmicadapter) via Chrome native messaging and does not require any user account to function.

Inconsistent, does not connect and unreliable, have not been able to use in over a year. Tried multiple methods and always fails. Extensions need to be repeatedly installed. If the input method doesn't work, the software doesn't' either.
unfortunately it is much slower than my dicating speed and spend time waiting for it to write out the thought. at times it comes up with a foreign language. one day I did a quick letter to another doctor about a patient. I left a message for my nurse to add something from the file and fax. Thankfully I saw it sitting on top of the fax and read it. The middle portion was embarrasing if it had gone out as full of syntax and wpelling errors. Had to edit by typing. Wish it really helped efficiency because I talk faster than I type.
The extension is nice in the EHR that I use, the only problems is that the buttons on my microphone (nuance III) stop working and the only way to get them working again is to uninstall and then reinstall the chrome plugin. Not super convenient and kind of annoying when I'm just sitting back down to start working on notes again. I'd would be nice if the developers would fix this issue/bug/whatever it is.
Exact same as above, but 3 stars is too generous. I have Dragon Medical One Embedded with Athena EHR and the PowerMic controls and ability to modify them has never worked. It does talk-to-text transcription, but accuracy is not good and unable to link to my Dragon profile to make it better. I use DMO regularly through the hospital and have NONE of these problems. Very frustrating
