This wasn't working for me recently after months of it being fine. I uninstalled it and updated chrome. After reinstalling several times this is now working excellently. Urls for office files are opened directly in the browser after clicking, just like a pdf or another webpage. I can edit and save. Local files and downloads can be opened by dragging into any chrome window (except a google search window) and the files will be edited locally. I'm not sure if the data goes anywhere but to me the saves seem to happen immediately on the local folders. This is much better than opening up office just to view or even for minor edits. Major editing should be done in a dedicated programme.
If this stopped working for you, check the console logs (F12 and go to the console tab). If it says something of the sort "onChange on ... undefined ...", then this fix should work for you. Go to about:flags/#navigator-connection-attribute, set it to enabled, and close and reopen your browser twice (I don't know why twice, but that's what worked, probably the extension caching something) Read https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/20122 to know why it is disabled by default. You might want to trade off this extension for the benefits outlined in that link.
not working anymore
For everyone having an issue with this extension on MAC: What I did is: Remove Extensions Refresh Goole Drive Open an office file ( It will open with google Docs / Sheets ) Install the Extension Again Refresh Goole Drive Open an office file (It will now open correctly via this extension) This fixed it for our Company.
