Product summary

Review the store description, core capabilities, and common use cases.

SafetyCamAI Face Stream is a lightweight, privacy-first Chrome overlay that detects faces on the screen or tab you choose and uploads only cropped face regions for matching—never full frames. Users can monitor every detection in real time with a live status display (Queued → Uploading → Waiting → Result), instant thumbnails, and direct links to public sources such as mugshot pages when available. The extension does not host third-party records, only surfaces publicly accessible links. Key features include a real-time overlay with Start/Stop controls, a red border indicator when capturing "This Tab," verbose logs, and face crop–only uploads to ensure minimal data exposure. Each detected face appears immediately with its own status card and side-by-side thumbnail comparison once results return. To prevent duplicate uploads, SafetyCamAI uses perceptual hashing in a background worker thread. Additional features include per-tab dismiss (preventing auto-reopen on refresh), built-in diagnostics (Run Checks and Test Upload with GraphQL preflight support), live counters (Queued / Inflight / Uploads), and resilient upload handling with clear parsing and error messages.

Setup is simple and takes 2–3 minutes: install the extension, open the Options page, and (if needed) enable FaceDetector via chrome://flags/#enable-experimental-web-platform-features. After restarting Chrome, enter your API URL and key, run diagnostics, and verify connectivity with a 1×1 test upload. You can start face monitoring by toggling the overlay via the toolbar icon or keyboard shortcut (e.g., Alt+Shift+S), selecting a screen or tab, and clicking Start.

The extension uses minimal, purpose-specific permissions: activeTab, scripting, and storage to inject and manage the overlay UI, and getDisplayMedia to allow the user to explicitly choose what to capture. It never captures audio, and uploads only minimal face crops.

Privacy-first by design, SafetyCamAI avoids text-based lookups, doesn’t monetize personal data, and doesn’t host any third-party content. Users are responsible for lawful and ethical use, including obtaining consent where legally required and adhering to local privacy or surveillance laws (e.g., Pennsylvania’s mugshot publishing laws). SafetyCamAI is not a Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA) and must not be used for employment, credit, housing, or insurance decisions under the FCRA. Removal requests for surfaced links should go to the original hosting sites; cached thumbnails or links will be removed upon valid request.

Recent updates include: real-time queue states (Queued → Uploading → Waiting → Result), per-tab dismiss control, Blob Worker–based hashing to avoid cross-origin issues, GraphQL preflight header support with 1×1 probe tests, improved deduplication, and more detailed network logging.
