Finally
It, like so many others, does the thing. How long it will continue to do the thing, is yet to be seen. We could install any number of the extensions and they will "do the thing", but all-too-often, the developers fail to keep their finger on the pulse, with a lack of innovation and novel solutions resulting in performance and quality falling off. A good ad-blocker (its developers, rather) should be around two corners ready to pounce in the cat and mouse game, should stay out of our (browser's) way and just do the thing, and be paying attention to the development of the browser itself. This is what I (as a software engineer, systems designer, code wizard, typical dork) visualize the developers doing: 1. Doing an audit of other ad-blockers (this is good, research is important) 2. Developing their own basic ad-blocker 3. Optimizing and adding features iteratively 4. *NOT* being dug in like a tick when it comes to the browser's operations When it comes to Open Adblocker however, my experience thus far has been solid. It has done such a solid job of staying out of my way, that I forget it is there. That's how it should be, dangit. Let's not forget it actually delivers on its name: it's open source and we can look at and pretend we totally understand its source. If I had one request, it wouldn't be a feature or a fix, but rather a promise from the developers: please, please, PLEASE stay in the absolute loop of Chrome development, across all channels. Get in there deep, and pay attention to the relevant (and loosely related) elements of the browser. Don't get pushed around and give in to letting "acceptable" ads through. Humanity needs a break from the relentless onslaught of advertising. I don't want to be held hostage by an opinionated council of money-makers that decide what is acceptable or not. Often times I am in the zone designing, programming, zenning out. I want a clean and virgin environment devoid of stupid blinky this or flashy that, or... well, we know what advertising looks like. Open Adblocker has gifted me with the clean environment I need, reducing or altogether removing my stress, and crankiness over the sheer stupidity of the advertising world and how little it respects our intelligence. To summarize: good work, keep it up, don't let up, don't sell out.
