Disappointing extension from Google. Does nothing except show the number of unread mails - including the hundreds of irrelevant, delete-worthy ones that you haven't opened throughout the years. Clicking on the button simply opens Gmail, which you can do with any bookmark. So what is the point of this 'checker'? It should be useful like Google Voice extension, which opens a convenient little pop-up window to do what we need to do with messages without opening up another Chrome tab.

why not add a option to select the default mailbox?

Should be configured to show notification only for primary inbox.
This app didn't work perfectly. The icon was usually gray and did not display the unread mails. I don't think this problem was caused by my computer. I hope u can fix it.
