Worked for me as of 15 Aug 2024. Google shouldn't make us resort to using extensions to get away from this problem. Instead users should be allowed to opt out. I have found the AI Overview results not to be very useful and in some cases proved to be completely wrong and a waste of time to look at.
I was hoping for this to work, but I have tested it in google.com and google.co.uk search engines and it does not work.

Doesn't work for me. Tried removing and re-adding it, disabling it and re-disabling it. Sorry, but not working.

This extension saved me!!! I really couldn't search anything anymore without it. However, to make it work, I had to install it manually following the GitHub ReadMe instructions.
It works for me as of July 28. AI recommended.
