It will help you optimize your video viewing by allowing you to make quick playback speed adjustments, as well as rewind the video to hear the last few second one more time. We don't read at a constant speed, and we talk much slower than we read - there is no reason why we have to listen at a constant speed and at a (very) slow rate.
Once the extension is installed simply navigate to any page that offers HTML5 video, and you'll see a speed indicator in top left corner of the video player. Hover over the indicator to reveal the controls to accelerate, slowdown, or rewind the video (10 seconds + lowers playback speed). Or, even better, use your keyboard:
- S - decrease playback speed.
- D - increase playback speed.
- R - reset playback speed.

(updated review on 2026) Mostly works but buggy on some sites, the extension got a design revamp in the options page which looks nice but regressed the core functionality of the extension even more than the past.
just what I was looking for for practicing my bass with videos. Bless You!
Settings can be changed (by clinking icon at upper rigth of browser) . I like 2 sec pump forward and back. Also, when you "return to normal speed" and hit R again you go back to the speed you had set before. THIS IS GREAT. Now when watching a lecture at high speed, I can jump back 2,4,6 sec and then come forward at normal speed and then return to high speed. This is great!!
Almost Perfect! On the next update, Please Add a Shortcut for Play/Pause too.
My favorite extension. It has greatly improved my productivity! I also like the fact that the code is all on github. Watching videos at normal speed is actually annoying now.
Super amazing! Love it love it love it, especially the easy-to-access and customizable keyboard shortcuts. Trivia: The minimum speed is .06, the max is 16, and, at least on YouTube (I haven't tried anywhere else), the audio cuts out at .5 and 4.
I mostly listen to clips at 1.5x speed but the standard jump to 2x is just too steep and the ability to fine grain, with your own stepping, just using your keyboard makes this extension indispensable and worth the highest rate you can give. The thing I miss is the ability to step frame by frame (current lowest speed is 0.06) and not having to download and use another program for it. This is very useful when watching a key change in a scientific video, wanting to walk frames back and forth to study the reaction closely. Can this be fixed? :)
