This extension will make mailto: links open in a Gmail compose window. Nothing more, nothing less.
* Supports Google Apps accounts
* Works on javascript-inserted links
* Includes option of working on bcc: fields
It supports to, cc, subject, and body (and optionally bcc) fields, and is made to be compatible with RFC2368, the mailto: scheme standard.
It doesn't modify the mailto:address itself, so you can still see the link in the status bar when you hover over it, which allows you to easily read the target at a glance.

Does not work with OS X Lion, even after a restart. Sorry.
Five Stars, works just fine. (You have to restart chrome after installing)
Works great. Simple and works.
Does exactly what it says on the tin, no ugly buttons just click a link Gmail opens a minimalistic compose window. To those saying that you need to restart Chrome - is it possible you just haven't refreshed the page with the mailto link? :)
Why didn't I hear about this before??? life's so much easier now. Thanks so much for this :)
Doesn't do anything, even after restarting chrome.
This works great! Works perfectly with my business Google Apps accounts as well and even across Google Chrome profiles. Simple to setup and use. This extension does require the user to restart Google Chrome once installed before it will recognize mailto: links properly.
Funktioniert nicht mit allen mailto links. schade.
Looks pretty good, but in my case, I have multiple sign-on for two Google accounts and use them both at the same time. One is a Google Apps account and the other one is my Google-provided Gmail account. My Gmail account is my primary one (for search history, etc.) but I want this extension to use my Google Apps account for email links, but it always uses my Gmail account, even when I fill in the "Use Google Apps domain" option for this extension. This option only seems to work if I don't sign in to multiple Google accounts at the same time.
The only frustration with this extension is WHY it exists... in Firefox, I can simply scroll down to gmail in my BROWSER SETTINGS/OPTIONS. In GOOGLE'S OWN BROWSER, you'd THINK it would default to a new tab with Google's mail option to sign into, but no, it opens IE on Windows computers by default--that's bonkers. -1 for why-I-wasted-time-searching-options. Anyway, as someone mentioned, you have to RESTART CHROME. That lack of mention loses another star. After all, Every.Single.Extension in Firefox either works right away or FF TELLS YOU when you have to restart before it will work-come on, billion dollar people, at least TRY to match their basics (since Chrome is admittedly faster for YT & other Google owned goodies, I do use it for that and sorta get stuck just opening stuff here though it's more invasive). Gotta say... Chrome, you're losing major points. ABP can't block as much because you crud up and go all crazy dictatorial over what content can be filtered out... then things SO SIMPLE can't be a matter of "options->mail..." Sad. Glad someone else made mention, though, of the restart. Otherwise, as rarely as I restart, you'd FAIL. One thing Google NEEDS to do, though, is instead of me having to go to task manager and end the whole process... please create this option to restart the browser when this happens; otherwise, I'd lose what are often 20+ tabs for things I'm reading between/linking/researching and the like. I have to force it to shut down or else I can't come back to my session properly. It won't save when I simply need to restart for extensions. BAD GOOGLE. Fix this.
