High Contrast lets you browse the web with your choice of several high-contrast color filters designed to make it easier to read text.
When you install this extension, all pages are "inverted", so black becomes white and white becomes black. Press the "browser action" icon in the toolbar to toggle it on and off, or customize your settings on a per-site basis. Use a convenient keyboard shortcut to quickly change your settings while your browse.
Other extensions try to change the default colors, but this ends up breaking many popular websites. Only this extension applies filters to your page that invert almost everything - the only exception is photos, which are left alone.
Also note that the Chrome web store and other built-in pages like the New Tab page and Settings pages are unaffected - extensions like this one are not allowed to modify them, by design.

A customisable colour filter applied to web pages to improve colour perception.
It doesn't work with Google Docs on Chromebook Pixel. Also, it shows the "non-contrast" colors before switching to the new color scheme on websites. I like this plug-in to reduce eye strain, but the "white blink effect" before going dark kind of defeats the purpose. I like the third-party hackervision extension more, but it has some issues on the Pixel also. Toggling accessibility for the whole system works for me... but it's more cumbersome, and then everything is reversed instead of just the white backgrounds. Hope to see more extensions like this or an update for this one. Thanks.
First let me note here that using google docs and having the add-on enabled causes the google sprite to flash as a large background image really not able to work on google docs with it on. Also text boxes are hard to read and sometimes radio buttons disappear from the screen. But Overall I like it, It has helped me to keep my high contrast theme on windows stay uniform. And thanks for creating this plugin after all it's free and your works is appreciated.
Finally something to make sites like reddit not burn my eyes so much. I like that you can activate it for some sites but not others and it seems to remember your choices. -2 stars for completely breaking google docs though. ouch.
It shouldn't mess with video colors.
It was great until the latest update it seems. Somehow the default was normal so only needed it on a few sites - I especially hate a black background with white text so nice to invert it. However for last few months been going crazy as on some sites drop down or fill out boxes are turned black so can not see what entering with normal black text. I could use extension to make it readable but didn't realize it was the extension when on normal still makes some white boxes to fill in black. Others on various boards also reporting problem The solution is to disable this extension! Then no black unreadable boxes in normal mode. Seems a new bug.
Why in the world would you leave pictures alone, and still mess around with video colors????
Had to post because I saw negative reviews. The best high contrast extension anywhere, and I've checked other browsers thoroughly as well. It's the primary reason I use Chrome. I've asked Firefox and they have nothing like this. It will not strip buttons of textures/images and so on. It will invert all colors while keeping images normal in most instances. Best web experience I've ever had. No more eye-blasting, retina-melting white pages. Used to work perfect, but recently some pages will flash back to normal mode while the extension is still enabled. Also, some menu bars and elements that should be hidden will appear to be on the wrong layer. This only happens to me on a handful of pages, so overall I still love it. If these issues were fixed I would rate a billion stars.
this used to work well with google docs but now tons of unwanted characters appear overlayed on spreadsheets in google docs.
Hey I love your extension. I been using it for almost a year. I will continue to use. I'd like to report an issue though. H.C no longer works with google drive/ google documents. a ton of weird icons are displayed and flash around the screen and it also messes up how g-docs functions. Please fix this if you can. :D Oh yeah, like some other reviewers say, it would be cool if we had a choice to ignore images and video, but I bet this is a bit tricky to pull off. That still doesn't atter to me because this saves my eyes during late night browsing, I used to suffer from head/eye-aches all the time. Now with HighContrast Ext. thats a thing of the past! :D for all the pain its saved me from 5stars! Ignore the haters, get this extension!
I liked this at first for my neat new Samsung Chromebook, whose screen does need a little help. In most websites, it provides some nice options to sharpen the view. BUT it causes annoying, repetitive FLASHING when working with documents in Google Drive - yikes! It took me a while to figure it out, had to check the forums (no help there) and disable a couple of extensions before finding the source of the problem. Also, as some other users have mentioned, it does not just work on the site you turn it on for, it begins functioning for every site you go to. Maybe I'm being a little harsh - you just have to remember to turn it off when problems develop or you don't like the look - but I think it does need some improvement.
