View and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files - without needing Office installed on your computer.
Once the extension is installed, Office files that you drag into Chrome, open in Gmail, Google Drive and more will be opened in Docs, Sheets and Slides for viewing and editing.
You can save each file back to its original Office format or convert it to Docs, Sheets or Slides to unlock more features, like inviting others to edit with you, commenting, chatting and more.

This extension doesn't work with apple M1 version of google chrome

Works well, easy to use You can also upload and edit documents in the editor from your PC Arbeitet gut. Auch vom PC kann man Dokumente in den Editor hochladen und bearbeiten
This extension regularly crashes on XLSX files and you have to go the long way of uploading the file to drive and opening it from there. It would be better if this extension would automatically upload and convert as I don't want to edit them as an MS document.

Wspaniałe rozszerzenie!! Właśnie takiego czegoś szukałem, aby otrzymać możliwość otwierania i podstawowej obsługi plików MS Office itp. pod ChromeOS (a dokładniej CloudReady), również w trybie offline. Więcej na razie nie przetestowałem, ale choćby ta podstawowa obsługa i możliwość otwierania plików w trybie offline jest rewelacyjna, właśnie to było potrzebne!
So the first thing you will need to do. Is change the way the default app opens documents. When you install this (or if its force installed via Chrome OS), it opens in blank pages. When you change the default way to "OPEN with Office editing for etc" instead of just selecting Office Editing for Docs. Summary: There are visably two options like stated above. Make sure to change default option to open the document.

Google Office Editing for Docs, Sheets & Slides is the worst extension I could come over. Whenever I am trying to open a dowloaded file that has been derieved from a third party device and I am trying to open it, it showing that its an extension apage and not letting me access the document. Its tiring and difficult to just try and open a word( google doc) or ant other sheet. Believe me, I have done the worst mistake I could by purchasing this google chromebook and I am suffereing immensely. My work is affected because most of the time I am trying to figure out or refix the problems that I could smoothly run in Windows. Please dont buy any chromebook.
