Our 8-year-old is at that age where she wants to explore YouTube on her own but we're not comfortable with zero guardrails. Installed WhitelistVideo and she can only see channels we've approved - Bluey, art tutorials, and some science channels. She doesn't even notice the difference, she just watches her shows. Exactly what we wanted.
My 10-year-old has ADHD and YouTube's algorithm is basically designed to hijack his attention. He'd start on a Minecraft tutorial and end up watching random compilations for hours. Now he stays on the 15 channels we approved together. He actually finishes videos now instead of jumping around. This has been huge for us.
As a foster parent I'm required to monitor media access for the children in my care, most of them between 8 and 13. This gives me documentation of exactly what's being watched and complete control over approved content. I've recommended it to other foster families in our support group. The channel approval process is straightforward and the blocking is reliable
My grandkids are 9 and 12 and visit every weekend to use my computer. I'm not great with technology but my daughter helped me install this and now they can only watch the channels she picked. I don't have to hover over them the whole time. Very simple once it's set up.
My daughter outgrew YouTube Kids but isn't ready for unfiltered YouTube. This is the perfect middle ground - she watches regular YouTube but only the channels we trust. Much better experience. She gets actual quality content instead of the weird algorithmically generated stuff that floods YT Kids. She feels like she's using the real YouTube which matters a lot at her age.
We moved to the US two years ago and my 10-year-old watches a lot of YouTube to learn English. I needed something that would let him watch educational channels but not get pulled into random videos. WhitelistVideo is perfect for this. I approved channels in both English and Hindi so he can watch both. The safety levels are very thoughtful.
My 9-year-old was constantly ending up on weird prank channels and now he only sees the channels I've approved. Setup took maybe 5 minutes. The dashboard shows me exactly what he's watching and I can add new channels from my phone while he's using the computer. Worth every penny.
Great for our situation. My ex and I share custody of our 11-year-old and we both needed visibility into what he watches on YouTube. I manage the whitelist and we can both see the dashboard. It keeps things consistent between two households which has honestly reduced a lot of arguments about screen rules.
I set this up on our classroom Chromebooks for my 3rd through 5th graders. Students can only access the science and math channels I've pre-approved for lessons. No more kids sneaking off to watch gaming videos during free time. The fact that it blocks by default and only allows what I choose is exactly what a school environment needs.
Solid extension. I was using YouTube's restricted mode before but it blocked way too much educational content my daughter needs for school projects. This lets me whitelist specific channels like CrashCourse and Khan Academy while keeping everything else locked down. Only reason for 4 stars is I wish there was a way to bulk-add channels faster.
