Make sure to use Chrome version 84+ with this extension, otherwise the automatic selection of the locationbar text doesn't work.
Since Google updated Chrome to version 29, the App overview is no longer shown, when opening a new tab. This extension restores that behaviour to the way it was.
Tip: the keyboard shortcut CTRL+L (Windows/Linux) or CMD+L (macOS) highlights the URL.

* Upgraded to manifest V3. The rest of the extension code is exactly the same as version 2.1.0. Please bear in mind that the display of the apps is handled by internal Chrome code. This means that this extension has no influence over how that looks.
* Fixed a bug so that the address bar is highlighted again

does not work on chromebooks

Thank you! THANK YOU! I so HATE what Google did to the new tab feature and this just fixed it back to the way I prefer to work. (Now to install it on the work computer too.)
Thank you so much! I dislike that google changed this and doesnt give the option to have it the way it was. Having the apps handy like on a Phone is the the best thing for simplicity and really worked. If I want to search I just type it into the url bar. Duh!
Thanks, didn't want to have to have an apps button in my bookmarks bar. I did prefer that the original behaviour let you switch between apps and most visited, but this is an improvement on how it is now.
Works well, although I liked how chrome did it before the update with pages you frequently visited, and the apps page. I hope you can add that feature in.

Thank you kind sir. There really should be an option to change this within Chrome. As there is not, you get 5 stars for a great extension.
This extension is great. I do not like the new functionality, and this allows me to just see my apps when I open a new tab. Hopefully Google will fix this so I don't need an extension, but until then this is for me!
