Bookmarks clean up

Didn't work for me. I noticed one particular bookmark had begun duplicating itself in a variety of odd ways, recreating its folder over 2,000 times. And since there's no way to just go in and select all of the offending files easily in file explorer I tried this. When I tried this extension it moved the offending bookmark all over the place, it renamed itself as a variety of my other bookmarks, I had to reload from backup (DEFINITELY SAVE A BACKUP!). The initial problem is obviously on my end, it feels like there is a corrupt file somewhere that I can't identify and repair. I would select and delete all the duplicate files and then click the "find duplicate files" button again and they'd be right back where they were duplicating themselves. I've disabled bookmark syncing, I just don't know what to do. EDIT: 2 Stars to 5 Stars Ok, so I manually deleted everything except empty folders (one by one about a hundred items), restarted my computer a few times periodically to try to clear any corrupt memory cache that might have been persisting in Chrome (I was getting weird choppiness), I was then able to run the extension from a fresh startup and delete all of the empty duplicate folders and it seems to have worked without duplicating anything else.

The big problem with this extension is the layout of the broken links results. First, it only shows the URL, not the name of your bookmark which makes it very difficult or impossible to know what the link was supposed to go to. Second, the bookmarks are also not shown by where in your bookmarks folder structure the broken bookmark is. If the developer changed the broken links display to show it as the bookmark names and within the folder structure, and just put the type of error next to the ones with a problem, the extension would be useful. I found another extension called "Bookmarks Checker" which has a proper display, however it doesn't have the ability to exclude folders like this extension does.

Despite the silly reviews, this still works as of Dec 25 2022. If you need something more advanced, Chrome bookmarks are saved in JSON and exported in HTML, both of which are easy to edit with a script.

Be nice if it worked. it does nothing. And crashes constantly. So yeah... Love the idea, maybe someone will come up with one that actually works!

I have 40,000 bookmarks, and 7,000 are duplicates. Unfortunately, while the duplicate bookmark detection seems to work as expected (the numbers match a python duplicate bookmark script I found elsewhere), there seems to be NO way to say "delete all duplicates". So this tool, while it appears to be well written, will not handle my use case.
